    Choosing your categories

Categories decide which leaderboards your page competes on. Free pages pick 3; Premium picks 10.

    Updated September 2, 2026

Categories are what your page is known for — “Soccer”, “Pop music”, “AI & automation”. They do more than describe you: they decide which leaderboards your page competes on. A page tagged “Startups” shows up on the Startups board; a page tagged “Actors” shows up there instead.

    Picking them

Open your page, click Edit profile, and find the Categories field. Start typing what you do — the picker searches thousands of categories grouped under a few dozen broad groups (Business & Technology, Music, Sports, and so on). Aliases are matched too, so “footballer” finds “Soccer player”.

If nothing matches what you're looking for, a Suggest this category button appears in place of the results. Send it for review and an admin adds the good ones to the shared taxonomy.

    How many you can show

How many categories you can pick depends on your plan:

    • Free pages — up to 3 categories.
    • Premium pages — up to 10 categories.

The picker shows a counter (for example “2 / 3”) and won't let you save more than your limit. If a page already holds more categories than its plan allows — for example after a Premium subscription ends — nothing is removed, but the leaderboard lists it under the first 3 only, and the picker asks you to remove the extras before it will save again.

Pick your strongest, most specific categories first. A narrow board (e.g. “Chess players”) is easier to rank on than a broad one, and specific tags help the right audience find you.

    Why they matter for ranking

Your position on any board comes from your Audience (or Boosts, in Boosts mode) within that category. Adding a category enters you into its competition; removing one takes you out. Categories don't change your Audience number itself — that comes from your verified social links. See how Audience is calculated.

Category slugs are English-canonical across the site, so the same board has one stable URL regardless of the viewer's language.
